Introducing the Michigan Sun Run.

The Michigan Sun Run is a 3,000 mile-long endurance run across the United States of America. Following the path of the sun from the East Coast to West Coast, this 12-state journey is solar racing’s newest challenge.

From July 21st to August 3rd, the University of Michigan Solar Car Team successfully completed the Michigan Sun Run.

The Journey

The Official Route

Starting in Princeton, the team drove Aevum across the country to Los Angeles. Along the way, Aevum stopped at Kansas City and Albuquerque.

The Mock Route

Before embarking on the Michigan Sun Run, the team drove Aevum 1,300 miles around Michigan’s upper and lower peninsula as per team tradition.

During this race, we closely followed World Solar Challenge guidelines to best prepare us for the road ahead. You can see our coverage below.

Team Updates

There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into building and driving a solar car. So, we want to bring you along with us on the journey.

The Team

Our Solar Car

Representing the mean between time and eternity, Aevum is the team’s 16th solar car.

As the smartest car the team has ever built, Aevum is able to be optimized on race, perfect for 3,000 mile-long Michigan Sun Run.

Our Race Crew

Our 2022 Race Crew is comprised of 20 of the team’s most dedicated members.

With majors ranging from economics to aerospace engineering, our Race Crew will drive Aevum across the country.

The Significance

The Sunrunner Legacy

The name Sun Run pays homage to our first solar car, Sunrunner. Similar to how Sunrunner inspired many generations of the team to dream big, we strive to promote the adoption of sustainable energy technology through this exhibition run.

Our Purpose

As climate change destroys our environment, sustainable technology is the answer to creating a better future for all. The Michigan Solar Car Team aspires to lead the change by advocating for sustainable technology and bolstering youth engagement in STEM.

This summer, we aim to further these goals by presenting a new challenge to the world of solar racing: the Michigan Sun Run.
